About the event
Join Tracy Hames, Wisconsin Wetlands Association's Executive Director, on a tour of the Little Plover River watershed in Central Wisconsin. Using this river as an example, we'll discuss how watersheds function and how wetlands and floodplains play an important role in keeping them healthy. We'll examine the watershed's historic conditions, its legacy of human disturbance, and how community-based approaches are currently underway to address watershed-scale issues. You'll learn about wetland restoration, floodplain reconnection, forest and grassland management, wildlife and trout habitat, and the issues involved in balancing multiple land uses and community priorities in an urban and agricultural landscape.
We will meet at the yellow bridge on Kennedy Ave. There are two other planned stops along the river all accessed from Kennedy Ave. that we will drive to. We will be walking along the river and at times in the river. Though the river isn’t deep mud is inevitable. Bring knee high boots. Waders are optional. Insect repellant is a darned good idea.
Bring along a few dollars. Following the tour we will stop at the nearby Feltz Dairy Store for ice cream.
