Field Trip: Migration on the Mississippi
Time & Location
Nov 16, 2024, 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Location is TBD
About the event
Migration is one of nature's greatest spectacles and the Mississippi River serves as a major corridor for many waterfowl returning from their breeding grounds. We will depart from the Stevens Point area and head west to explore several areas of the river on both the Minnesota and Wisconsin sides - rendezvous point is to be determined. On this field trip we will be concentrating on Tundra Swans, various migratory ducks and other water birds, Bald Eagles, and any surprises that we can find on the way!
Weather in November can be temperamental, always be prepared for the cold! This field trip will be viewing waterfowl from viewing decks and may include a short hike or two, but pace will be easy. With waterfowl, a spotting scope is always handy, so if you have one, please consider bringing it along! ALAS will provide walkie-talkies so the caravan can communicate in transit or between locations.
