About the event
Join us as we explore the largest freshwater cattail marsh in North America! Horicon Marsh located between Waupun and Horicon is a Mecca of waterfowl, waders, and other marshland specialties. Both bitterns, Black-crown Night-Heron, Trumpeter Swan, and so many other exciting species call this place home. We will also scan for shorebirds in an area that has some decent mudflats - recently exciting birds like Black-necked Stilt and Stilt Sandpiper have been observed here. This field trip will be a mix of hiking and driving between different locations. Trails at the marsh are well maintained and the terrain is relatively flat. We will stop for lunch in Mayville. The field trip will wrap up in the early afternoon around or before 3:00PM.
We will be meeting at Artist and Fair at 7:00AM to carpool or at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center off of Hwy 28 around 9:00AM.
