About the event
Saturday, May 28th Bird Banding with Bob 8am-Noon (FREE but please sign-up for a time in advance.)
Once again we offer a very special opportunity to give kids an up-close encounter with birds. A special banding demonstration will be offered by Bob Welch, local ecologist and retired teacher. Please register in advance.
Programs are arranged so families can enjoy self-guided bird-themed crafts and games. A local Audubon expert will be available at the bird viewing window to help people with basic birding & ID tips.
These programs target ages 6-12 years old but all ages are welcome. Binoculars and ID books will be available to borrow.
For the banding event, you must register for a time slot. Every half hour, up to 20 people will be welcome in the banding area. We will talk about the birds that we capture, band, and then we will allow the guests to release a bird if they wish.
Please note: We cannot guarentee that every child will have a chance to release a bird. Banding is a weather dependent activity. If condtions are not right, capture rates may be low. In some cases, we cannot band at all if the weather conditions put birds in danger. In the event of heavy rain, we will cancel. Please register so we can send notifications.
