About the event
ALAS welcomes you back to the Buena Vista Grasslands as we join Janet and Amber Eschenbauch of Central Wisconsin Kestrel Research on Saturday June 13th at 9AM. They will take us around the grassland to visit several active American Kestrel boxes, where group participants will have the opportunity to learn about North America's smallest falcon in a hands-on setting. Janet, Amber, and the rest of the volunteers with Central Wisconsin Kestrel Research will be banding the young Kestrels and recording important data like age, sex, weight, and feather development before safely returning them to their boxes.
We recommend you dress appropriately for the weather, it can be quite sunny and windy on the Grasslands so light-weight long-sleeved shirts and pants are advised. Hats and sunglasses are useful for blocking the sun and wind while in the field. There may be poison ivy off the road at some of the boxes,…
