Come join us Sunday, February 8 at 8:00AM for a snowshoe hike and explore a small island of boreal habitat in our own backyard! We will hike into the Mead Conifer Bog State Natural Area, which is part of the larger Mead State Wildlife Area. Being dominated by black spruce, the bog can host an interesting mix of wintering birds and other wildlife. Golden-crowned Kinglets, Common Raven, Redpolls, and other species utilize this habitat most winters. If we’re really lucky we may even happen across White-winged Crossbills.
Expect this hike to be a little over a mile in distance and around 2 hours in duration. As always with winter outings, dress accordingly. Layers are always recommended: warm gloves, thermals, snow pants, boots, etc. Access to the bog is on the east end of County Line Rd from County S.
